What image format should I use for the source?
PNG or SVG images with a transparent background work best. Use a square image (at least 512x512 pixels) for optimal quality across all sizes.
What is an ICO file?
An ICO file is a container format that bundles multiple icon sizes into a single file. Browsers use it to display the best icon for each context (tab, bookmark, etc.).
Which favicon sizes do I really need?
At minimum, you need 16x16 and 32x32 for browser tabs. For full compatibility, add 180x180 (Apple Touch) and 192x192 + 512x512 (PWA). Our tool generates all common sizes.
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. All processing happens entirely in your browser using client-side JavaScript. Your image never leaves your device, ensuring complete privacy.
Can I use a non-square image?
Yes, but the image will be scaled to fit a square canvas, which may cause distortion. For the best results, crop your image to a square before uploading.
